As audience attendance goes up this summer, a few of fall’s heaviest hitters are hoping to grab moviegoers’ attention while they wait for the latest blockbuster.

Case in point: Rueben Fleischer's crime drama Gangster Squad, which boasts an impressive cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Giovanni Ribisi, Nick Nolte and Michael Pena. The flick doesn't come out until Oct. 19, but today we get our first look at what Fleischer has cooked up in this flick that chronicles the LAPD's fight to keep the East Coast mafia-types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.
