Fantastic Fest is easily one of our favorite flick festivals each year, mainly because of the excellent genre flicks they screen from around the world, but also because of the laid-back vibe, uniquely awesome events and all-around cool flick nerds you get to share the experience with.

We anticipate this festival like nothing else, and we're stoked to hear that Tim Burton's Frankenweenie has just been announced as this year's opening night film. Based on Burton's own 1984 short film, Frankenweenie follows a boy named Victor who loses his dog and attempts to bring the little guy back to life through the power of Frankenstein-esque science.

The flick marks Burton's return to stop-motion animation, which is an area he's thrived in his entire career.
