Peter Jackson filmed two The Hobbit films, An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug, at the same time, with a third to be shot for a 2014 release.

Martin Freeman (Hot Fuzz), Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, and Benedict Cumberbatch star, along with Hugo Weaving, Stephen Fry, Luke Evans, Cate Blanchett, Billy Connolly (Brave) and Elijah Wood.

An Unexpected Journey premieres December 14, with the next two parts coming out December 13, 2013 and July 18, 2014, respectively.
