The Hobbit: Director Peter Jackson is pioneering the use of 48 frames per second for the upcoming release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but the film’s presentation in high frame rate -- a highly touted process that reportedly improves picture quality dramatically -- will be quite limited, and may not even be available in all major cities.
Warner Bros. wants to “test the marketplace” first to see how audiences respond; theaters won’t even be equipped to project high frame rate until next month, at the earliest.
