This weekend Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be hosting Saturday Night Live to promote his upcoming flick Looper.

And though it’s hard to say that Mr. Gordon-Levitt is a big flick star after Premium Rush tanked, we couldn’t be more excited for both Looper and his SNL appearance.

In both cases there’s good reason.

With Looper, it’s because it comes from Rian Johnson, who directed Brick and The Brothers Bloom, and word out of Toronto’s International Film Festival was that the flick delivers and delivers big.

And as for Saturday Night Live, most episodes of the show work best when they’ve got a good host, which is why people like Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin are often asked to come back.

Gordon-Levitt hosted an episode in 2009 and absolutely killed it, and delivered the most memorable monologue in years, in which he recreated the entirety of Donald O’Connor’s “Make ‘Em Laugh” routine from Singin’ in the Rain.

He’s joined here by Jason Sudeikis for the promo piece, and it’s actually pretty funny, but we’re suckers for freeze-frame jokes.

Sudeikis was rumored to leave before the end of this season, but it looks like he’ll be with the show at least through the election.

Even though they just handed over the President Obama impression from Fred Armisen to Jay Pharoah, it looks like Sudeikis is SNL‘s Romney.

Whether that means he’s done by the end of 2012, or if he sticks on for four more years is likely election dependent.

Gordon-Levitt’s will be on this Saturday at 11:30, which is good to know if you’ve never seen the show before.

How do you watch SNL? Online clips, live, DVR, or never?
