It's official.
After two weeks of post-Comic-Con speculation, Peter Jackson has just confirmed via The Hobbit'sofficial Facebook page that he will be splitting the flick into threefilms, the third of which will be released sometime in the summer of2014.
The director made mention of the possibility during his time in San Diego,explaining he had such a wealth of source material to work with(including the legendary Tolkien appendices from The Return of the King)that it would be difficult to do it all justice in just two parts.
Noword on what this will mean for established payouts and contracts withcast and crew, especially given that filming wrapped at the beginning of July, but for our part more Hobbit-y goodness can only be a good thing.
Yes, even if that means we'll have to pay for an additional trip to the multiplex.
