Now, we've all heard that there's no such thing as an original story.

And in a way, that's mostly true.

But in Hollywood today, it seems to be more true than ever.

Take a look at an infographic from Short of the Week that exposes some shocking truths about Hollywood:

That's right, none of last year's top 10 flicks were original, and all but two were sequels.

In fact, Bridesmaids was the only original flick to break the top 15.

Compare that to 7 original flicks and 2 sequels in the top 10 in 1981.

So far, this year has seen a slight improvement on last year.

If we look at the Top 10 flicks so far in 2012, two of them are original stories: Brave and Ted.

The rest are sequels or adaptations.

So what does this say about Hollywood? In the age of $200 million productions and global audiences, is Hollywood simply doing what's best for business? Or are moviegoers getting exactly what they want? Everyone's excited for The Hobbit and Breaking Dawn Part 2.

The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers grossed insane box office numbers.

With such a tightly-intertwined symbiotic relationship, it's hard to tell which came first, the chicken (Hollywood's supply), or the egg (Audiences' demand).

But is it a problem that needs fixing? What do you think? Should Hollywood inject some more originality into its machinery? Should audiences demand new ideas?
