Brave has topped the US box office with a healthy opening weekend of $66.7 million, making it the thirteenth Pixar flick to claim the number one spot.

The flick comfortably knocked fellow animation Madagascar 3 off pole position, with the Ben Stiller-starring caper bringing in just $20.2 million.

Meanwhile, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter endured a disappointing opening, its $16.5 million take leaving it in third place.

Prometheus added a further $10 million to its total in fourth, with Snow White And The Huntsman just behind it with $8 million, and Rock Of Ages on $7.9 million in sixth.

That's My Boy sits in seventh spot after a $7.9 million weekend, while The Avengers inched even closer to the $600 million mark with another $7 million in the coffers.

Men In Black 3 sits in ninth on $5.6 million, with Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World completing the top ten on $3.8 million.
