Variety reports that actor Benicio del Toro is in final negotiations for his next major role – playing infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar in a romantic thriller entitled Paradise Lost. Life of Pi actor Andrea di Stefano wrote the script and will make his directorial debut with the feature, which was inspired by true events.
The story centers on a young surfer named Nick, who visits Colombia and falls in love with a beautiful local girl.
Turns out her uncle is Escobar. Producer Dmitri Rassam says the flick is not an Escobar biopic, but will instead “have a narrative structure in the vein of The Last King of Scotland, weaving Nick and Maria's romance with Nick's ambivalent and destructive relationship with Escobar.” Sounds like it could be...
