Captain America, the man who made The 40-Year-Old Virgin and the young actress who made a luminous debut in Cannes hit Beasts of the Southern Wild will all be honoured at the 16th annual Hollywood Film Awards, presented by the L.A. Times.

Joss Whedon's one-billion-dollar-earning superhero extravaganza The Avengers, writer-director-producer Judd Apatow, actress Quvenzhané Wallis, Oscar nominee John Hawkes (Winter's Bone and this year's TIFF drama The Sessions) and cinematographer Wally Pfister - a frequent Christopher Nolan collaborator - have been singled out for their exemplary work in the world of cinema this year and while all of the accolades are very much deserved, awarding Hawkes the Hollywood Breakout Performance Award at this stage in his career is a bit of a head-scratcher, though we're happy he's getting recognized....
